According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the federal government of the United States, Washington, for instance, would be investigating Microsoft for corruption. An anonymous source reported that Microsoft would have paid to foreign government officials to obtain contracts for its software.
According to the article in the WSJ, the Department of Justice (the equivalent of our ministry) and the Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating anonymous complaints qualiMicrosoft would pay according to officials in China, Romania and Italy.
It is thought that the company may have violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, according to which listed companies can not offer money to foreign governments.
In China's case, Microsoft would have hired an outside firm to conduct an investigation lasting 10 months which would have discovered that there was no wrongdoing.
Here, however, what the WSJ writes about Italy:
"According to the sources, the agencies (U.S. governtive, ed) are examining the relationships with Microsoft consultants in Italy specializing in programs fidelizzazionie customer. In a post on a blog, Microsoft diminishes as reported by the WSJ explaining that it is important that the government investigate allegations of this kind, and that is a good idea to do so. Microsoft, however, has not denied nor confirmed the investigation, but said that if there was an investigation, it would release statements. Everyone should draw the conclusions he believes.
